Diary #8: CHOGM 2011

Heyy Guys :)
So during my exam week; I decided to do some volunteering work :) It was a good way to think about something else other than exams :)

The volunteering work I did was 'The People's BBQ' with the Red Cross. It was basically a BIG/ HUGE event located around the Esplanade/ Foreshore. It was supposed to be a farewell BBQ for the Queen who visited Perth which held the 2011 CHOGM.

The BBQ setup at the marquee I was at.

The 120 BBQ's, marquees and cooking supplies were supplied by Bunnings and the 120,000 sausages were supplied by Coles along with the sauces, napkins and bread.

All the profits when to the following charities; Activ, Red Cross, Clontarf Foundation and Legacy.

The day overall was fun yet tiring. I was there from 7am til 2pm. One funny things happened was that none of my group members showed up, so I was put in a group of girls from Coles and they were really fun and great to work with.

One of my highlights was seeing the Queen and meeting some of the world leaders who was here in Perth for CHOGM. I was really surprised that some of them actually joined in the event. It was nice talking to some of them :)

When the BBQ hasn't started ... Looks pretty quiet
