Firstly, to my cousin. When I was in Vietnam, I recently found out that my 21 or 22 year old cousin was forced to join the army for at least 18months (depending on what unit he is sent to and how much training is he able to take on). What I found out was that, you are called by your local council shire/law enforcement to join the army. Unlike Perth, which you have the option to join, in Vietnam you are invitied (aka you are requested) to join if you have passed the physical and endurance test and also the blood test. However, if you pass these test but still refuse to join then your family will have to pay a heavy fine. So, it seems like I won't be able to see my cousin for, hopefully, 18 months. I wish him a the best of luck and hope that he can return safe and sound.
Another thing I had experienced, whilst in Vietnam was finding your lost family member during the Vietnam War. There was a lady that recently found the corps of her uncle or son or something along those lines .. South of Vietnam. According to my Aunt, people pay a huge amount of money for these people to find the remains or corps of their loved ones. And luckily, she was able to find her's. As a result, she requested to have the remains sent to her, via the Bac-Nam coach, and hold a proper funeral for him.
From what I've heard; there a more people like her that, still today, are still finding their loved ones. However, their remains still unknown. Because tracing back to which area they were sent to and what they were doing at that time is so hard for them to predict and find. I hope that eventually, people would be able to find the remains of their loved ones so that their souls could rest in peace.
