To me, the meaning of happiness is much more deeper than just being joyful. My definition of happiness is to share something/ do something good for someone else. What I mean is, say that you are drinking tea. You're happy cause your drinking tea but deep inside you rather/ want to share some tea with someone else other than yourself. As a result, you get a friend to drink tea with you. Both you and your friend are happy because you both are drinking tea and enjoying each other's company rather than drinking alone.
Another way of seeing what happiness is, is by assuming that its your birthday and you have a cake. Your happy that's its your birthday but deep inside your sad that you don't have anyone to share this special occasion with. So as a result, you invite a few friends and/or family over. This is because you want to share your birthday with everyone and even the cake. Both you and them are happy.
Sharing the "happiness" with other people other than yourself is more better than having it to yourself. This is because the smiles on the other person's face is better than having no smile at all. Seeing someone happy can always make you feel good about yourself. This is because you know that you have brought them happiness and have done something good. :D
